Head of Engineering & Data

We are seeking a visionary technical leader to architect and execute the technology strategy that will power Nuru’s growth. You will champion innovation, own our technical roadmap, and drive excellence across all engineering, data, and model-development workflows. You will transform our core web app into a suite of scalable, multi-channel platforms, including field personnel-facing mobile applications and farmer outreach platforms, leading all aspects of technology, data, and product development. You will be a core part of the team that transforms our data and models into scalable, impactful products.

This is a hands-on role for a builder who can strategize with the CEO, translate client and farmer needs into technical specs with the COO, and lead a team to deliver models that have real-world impact.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Own the quality and efficiency of Nuru’s technical architecture—data pipelines, APIs, and core ML systems.
• Drive the full software development evolution of Nuru’s core web app and future channels, from prototyping and iteration to testing, deployment, and monitoring.
• Spearhead the company’s data strategy, including the creation of robust automated pipelines for the collection, processing, and analysis of diverse datasets.
• Champion engineering quality, data ethics, and operational excellence.
• Collaborate with the CEO and COO to align tech outputs with farmer impact.
• Lead, mentor, and grow a lean, high-performing team across engineering, GIS, and data science.
• Shape how AI and data science deliver tangible impact across Africa’s agriculture sector and beyond.

Qualifications

• 7–10+ years in software engineering, ML, or data-product leadership.
• Full-stack engineer credentials with proven experience in architecting and deploying production-level ML and GIS solutions.
• Hands-on expertise with geospatial data, remote sensing, and predictive modeling.
• Fluency in Python, cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP), and modern ML frameworks.
• Strategic thinking paired with a bias for execution—you can zoom from architecture to API call.
• A passion for using technology to build climate resilience and economic opportunity.
