About us
Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) is a state office established under Article 260 of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010, and the Political Parties Act, 2011. The mandate of the office is to register, and regulate political parties and administer the Political Parties Fund (PPF).
The Act is the primary legal reference for management of political parties in accordance with Articles 91 and 92 of the Constitution, which envisages well governed political parties that respect internal democracy and their constitutional status in the Kenyan political system.
The ORPP is headed by the Registrar of Political Parties, deputized by three (3) Assistant Registrars. There are three (3) directorates namely; Registration and Field Services Coordination; Regulation and Compliance and Political Parties Fund, Partnerships & Strategy.
The Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) is seeking competent, capable, ambitious, self-motivated and dynamic individuals that demonstrate the appropriate expertise and experience to contribute to the implementation of our mandate and the achievement of our vision to be a model regulator of Political Parties for a credible democratic multiparty system.

1. Registration Officer
Terms of Service: Pensionable
Department: Registration/Field Services Coordination
Job Purpose
The position is responsible for registration of political parties and implementation of ORPP devolved functions including maintaining synergy between headquarters, regional offices, county offices and relevant stakeholders.
This position can be deployed to either:
- Headquarters (Registration department)
- Field Services (Regional/ County Offices)
Job Specification
Duties and responsibilities
At the Headquarters, the specific duties and responsibilities will entail:
- Implement procedures and guidelines for provisional and full registration of Political Parties;
- Research and draft checklist for provisional and full registration;
- Scrutinize applications for provisional and full registration of Political Parties in accordance with the Political Parties Act, Cap 7D;
- Research and prepare draft statutory documents for publication in the Gazette and advertisement in the newspaper as provided for in law;
- Prepare correspondences to the applicants with regard to registration of Political Parties;
- Advise applicants on the registration of political parties and change of particulars;
- Compile status reports on the registration of political parties and draft activity reports;
- Update the political parties register; and
- Scrutinize the coalition and merger agreements in line with the Act;
At the Regional/County Offices, the specific duties and responsibilities will entail:
- Mobilization of stakeholders and partners for Capacity building at the county level;
- Maintain regular communication with Political Parties on matters affecting management of Political Parties;
- Conduct periodic visitation to political parties’ county offices to verify office locations, and adherence to registration requirements;
- Verify the availability of political party records at the county level;
- Verify the existence of political party offices at the county levels and adherence to compliance requirements;
- Maintain proper Office records;
- Prepare monthly operational reports and special activity reports;
- Draft and undertake research on registration of political parties; and
- Participate in political party’s sensitization activities.
Person Specification
For appointment to this post, a candidate must have: –
- Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following disciplines: Law, Public Administration, Business Administration, Education, Political Science/Social Science, or its equivalent from a recognized institution;
OR
- A minimum of six (6) years relevant work experience, three (3) of which must have been as a Senior Registration Assistant or a comparable and relevant position in the public or private sector with; A Diploma in any of the following disciplines: Laws, Public Administration, Education, Political Science or its equivalent from a recognized institution;
- Proficiency in Computer Applications; and
- Met the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution.
2. Clerical Officer
Terms of Service: Pensionable
Department: Human Resource Management
Job Purpose
The position is responsible for implementation of effective systems in the deployed functional area.
Reporting to Senior Officer in the deployed functional area
Job Specification
Duties and responsibilities
- Perform clerical functions for the Office including photocopying, scanning, binding and data entry;
- Maintain general cleanliness and security of files and equipment;
- Ensure proper organization of files in the registry;
- Maintain and update files and other records;
- Maintain files and files movement register;
- Maintain an efficient filling system;
- Circulate files to action officers and tracking the movement of files to ensure all the outstanding requirements are actioned within the required timelines;
- Draft simple correspondences;
- Coordinate file census; and
- Offer clerical support to line managers in the deployed functional area.
Person Specification
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:-
- Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education mean grade C (Minus) or its equivalent from a recognized institution;
- Proficiency in Computer Application Skills; and
- Met the requirements of Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution.
NOTE:
Successful candidates shall be required to comply with the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution and will be required to submit among other documents:
- Valid Certificate of Good Conduct from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI);
- Valid Clearance Certificate from the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB);
- Valid Tax Compliance Certificate from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA);
- Current duly filled and stamped Self-Declaration/Clearance from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC);
- A current Clearance Certificate from an approved Credit Reference Bureau (CRB).
