1. High School Sports Coach – Maternity Cover (Tatu Girls High School)

Nova Pioneer is looking for a superstar Sports Coach to serve as a 3 months maternity cover at our Tatu Girls Campus to start in September 2025.

You will be responsible for delivering an exceptional 21st Century physical education experience for our students and coaching them to succeed in various sports. You oversee the sports program and as such would be leading the vision for the sports program for the school.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Key responsibilities for the role include:

  1. Work with the Dean of Students to create a vision for the sports program and invest stakeholders in the vision.
  2. Oversee the regional athletics relationships and ensure the school is scheduled for all competition and matches.
  3. Create new and support existing partnering by reaching out to schools and other relevant places to seek for friendlies and other joint sporting events.
  4. Ensure  appropriate  preparation and management of all competitions and matches.
  5. Develop a strong school teams to represent the school in competitions.
  6. Develop a training program for all the training sessions in accordance with the school guidelines.
  7. Coach and instruct players individually or as a group regarding the rules , regulations, equipment and the techniques of the sport.
  8. Work with the Dean of Students to procure all needed  sports equipment.
  9. Ensure attendance is taken at the beginning and the end of the training sessions.
  10. Hold coaching sessions with athletes throughout the academic day and residential evening.
  11. Coach multiple sports ( could include sports such as: basketball, football, rugby, tennis or swimming) and help with contributing to the development of enrichment and residential experiences for students.
  12. Instruct and monitor students in the use and care of sports equipment and materials, in order to prevent injuries and damage.
  13. Observing, assessing and recording students’ performance, giving appropriate feedback and maintaining records of pupils’ progress and development for the Principal, other school leaders and parents.
  14. Providing or contributing to oral and written assessments, reports and references relating to individual students or groups of students.
  15. Monitor the academic performance of the players and always ensure high standards are met.
  16. Providing pastoral care and support to students, providing them with a secure environment to learn.
  17. Ensure simple first aid procedures are done to injured students during sporting activities.
  18. Provide consistent rewards and/ or consequences for student behaviour.
  19. Consistently meet the ambitious goals of a rapidly growing organisation.

ABOUT YOU

Skills and Qualifications required:

  1. You have 1 – 3 years of experience in a similar position working with teenagers.
  2. You have basic refereeing skills. At least FIBA level 1 and Coaching Certifications.
  3. A relevant degree in Physical Education or Sports/ Recreational Science is desirable
  4. A post graduate diploma in Sports/ Recreational Science can be considered
  5. You possess effective coaching techniques and skills. You possess adequate knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of the sport.
  6. You are able to communicate fluently- verbally and in writing in English. You are able to effectively present information and respond effectively to questions in one-on-one, small group situations to students and other school staff. You are able to verbally respond to common inquiries from students
  7. You are knowledgeable in a variety of sports and athletic programs. A proven track record of implementing successful athletic programs is highly desirable.
  8. You have excellent interpersonal skills and are able to build relationships with stakeholders
  9. You are flexible and open to change – you handle uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity well.

Nova Pioneer is looking for two (2) rockstar Part-Time Cambridge Primary and Lower Secondary Swimming/PE Coaches based at Nova Pioneer Tatu International School, located at our Tatu Primary campus in Tatu City. You will play a critical role in delivering an exceptional 21st-century learning experience for our students. ABOUT THE ROLE

Key responsibilities for the role include:

  1. Work with the Associate Dean of Students to create a vision for the swimming program and invest stakeholders in the vision.
  2. Oversee the in-house and regional swimming relationships and ensure the school is scheduled for all competitions.
  3. Create new and support existing partnering by reaching out to schools and other relevant places to seek friendlies and other joint events.
  4. Plan and supervise swimming galas, external competitions, manage external competition registration, and accompany students for external swimming galas
  5. Develop a strong school team to represent the school in competitions.
  6. Develop a training program for all the training sessions in accordance with the school guidelines.
  7. Coach and instruct swimmers individually or as a group regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
  8. Work with the Dean of Students to procure all needed swimming equipment.

  16. Instruct students individually and in groups, adapting teaching methods to meet students’ varying needs and interests.
  17. Providing pastoral care and support to students, providing them with a secure environment to swim.
  18. Prepare the pool area prior to each lesson/ training session to facilitate safe, creative play, and to bring out the best in each swimmer.
  19. Ensure the changing rooms are clean with safety mats, external pool areas are clean and pool lanes are clearly marked.
  20. Ensure adequate materials are ready for students.
  21. Managing the safe and efficient transition of students to and from swimming sessions.
  22. Ensure simple first aid procedures are done to injured students during swimming sessions.
  23. Establish and enforce rules for behavior, and policies and procedures to maintain order among students by providing consistent rewards and/ or consequences for student behaviour.
  24. Instruct and monitor students in the use and care of equipment and materials, in order to prevent injuries and damage.
  25. Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops in order to maintain and improve professional competence.
  26. Keep, maintain, and regularly update professional records- Records of work covered, progress records, rubrics, and students’ portfolios.
  27. Any other duty as assigned by your manager

ABOUT YOU

Skills and Qualifications required:

  1. Registered and active member of the Kenya Swimming Federation.
  2. Holder of Kenya Swimming Federation Level 3 coaching certification above.
  3. You possess a  Lifesaver certification.
  4. 1 – 3  years of experience in a similar position working with swimmers.
  5. You have basic first-aid training
  6. A relevant degree/diploma/certificate in Physical Education or Sports/ Recreational Science is desirable
